FAQ
Frequently asked questions about speech therapy
What is speech therapy?
Speech therapy (Logopädie) deals with language, speech, voice and swallowing disorders – in children and adults alike. The aim is for you to communicate well again in everyday life and to eat and drink safely.
How do I get treatment?
If it is medically necessary, your GP, paediatrician or specialist will issue a therapy prescription (Heilmittelverordnung). With it, you can make an appointment – by phone on 0231 58 69 26 00, online or by sending us your prescription.
How long does a session last?
Usually 30, 45 or 60 minutes, depending on the prescription. We agree the overall length of treatment with you.
Who covers the costs?
With a doctor’s prescription, statutory and private health insurers cover the costs. Statutory co-payments may apply for adults; children and young people under 18 are exempt. We will let you know in advance.
Can parents be present during their child’s therapy?
Yes, of course. With children in particular, it is important that parents know the exercises and can pick them up playfully at home.
Do you also come to people’s homes or care homes?
Yes. If a home visit is noted on the prescription, we treat you at home or in your care home or senior residence – for example after a stroke, with dementia or if you have limited mobility.
Can I cancel an appointment?
Yes, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance so that we can offer the slot to someone else.
